What is a Partnership Firm?

A Partnership Firm is one of the oldest and most common forms of business organisation in India. It is formed when two or more individuals agree to carry on a business together and share its profits and losses in an agreed ratio.

Partnership firms are governed by the Indian Partnership Act, 1932. While registration is not mandatory, a registered partnership firm enjoys significant legal advantages — including the right to file suits against third parties and partners.

Partnership firms are easy to form, require minimal compliance, and are popular among small businesses, traders, and professionals who want to operate jointly without the complexity of a company structure.

Easy to Form

A partnership firm can be formed with a simple Partnership Deed and minimal formalities.

Shared Responsibility

Business responsibilities, decisions, and workload are shared among partners.

Minimal Compliance

Fewer regulatory requirements compared to a company or LLP.

Flexible Management

Partners can manage the business directly without a formal board structure.

Combined Resources

Partners pool capital, skills, and networks to grow the business faster.

Simple Taxation

Partnership income is taxed at a flat 30% rate with deductions for partner remuneration.
